**Let’s address the elephant in the room. Or rather, the grouper on the reef.**
Every year, we hear the same thing from people booking their first dive in Cyprus: “But isn’t the Mediterranean a bit… boring?” And every year, those same people surface from their first dive at Green Bay with a look on their face that says, “Why did nobody tell me about this sooner?”
Look, we get it. Is Scuba Diving in Cyprus Actually Any Good? When you think world-class diving, your mind probably jumps to the Maldives, the Great Barrier Reef, or the Red Sea. Cyprus doesn’t exactly scream “underwater paradise” from the brochure rack at your local travel agent. But here’s the thing — after 20 years of running [Triton Adventures](https://tritonadventures.com) in Ayia Napa, we’ve watched thousands of divers go from sceptical to obsessed. And there’s good reason for that.
**The Numbers Don’t Lie**
Cyprus delivers diving conditions that most European destinations can only dream about. We’re talking water temperatures ranging from 16°C in winter to a bathtub-warm 28°C in summer. Visibility regularly hits 30 metres and can push past 40 on a good day. That’s better than most tropical destinations on an average Tuesday.
The island clocks over 300 days of sunshine per year, which means our diving season runs long and strong — roughly April through November for recreational divers, with year-round access for the properly kitted-out among you. There are no dangerous currents or heavy surf in the popular diving areas around Ayia Napa and Protaras, which is one of the reasons we’ve built our entire reputation on safety.
**Green Bay — Where Legends Are Born**
If you’re new to diving, you’ll almost certainly start your underwater life at [Green Bay](https://tritonadventures.com/dive-sites/). It’s calm, it’s shallow, and it’s absolutely teeming with life. Sea turtles? Regularly spotted. The MUSAN underwater sculpture park? Right there. Schools of damselfish, octopus hiding in crevices, sea bream doing their thing — it’s basically an underwater nature documentary, except you’re in it.
Green Bay is where our SSI Discover Scuba Diving experiences happen. You don’t need certification, you don’t need experience, and — contrary to popular myth — you don’t even need to be a strong swimmer. You need a willingness to try something new and an ability to breathe. If you’re reading this, you’ve already nailed the second one.
**But What About Experienced Divers?**
Glad you asked. Because this is where Cyprus really starts showing off.
The Zenobia wreck, sitting in Larnaca Bay, is consistently ranked among the top 10 wreck dives on the planet. She’s a 172-metre Swedish RO-RO ferry that sank on her maiden voyage in 1980 thanks to a software glitch in the ballast system. She now rests on her port side between 16 and 42 metres deep, with over 100 articulated lorries still chained to her decks. The marine life is extraordinary — grouper the size of Labradors, patrolling barracuda, resident moray eels, visiting sea turtles, lionfish, and triggerfish.
For those of you chasing certifications, we’re an SSI Dive Centre with an in-house Instructor Trainer. We offer everything from Open Water right through to speciality courses including Intro to Tec and Wreck Diving. If you’re the kind of diver who wants to go deeper — literally and figuratively — this is where you do it.
**The MUSAN Sculpture Park**
Opened in 2021, MUSAN (Museum of Underwater Sculpture Ayia Napa) features over 90 sculptures by artist Jason deCaires Taylor, submerged at various depths. It’s equal parts art gallery and artificial reef. The sculptures attract marine life at an astonishing rate, and within just a few years they’ve become encrusted with life, creating a genuinely surreal diving and snorkelling experience.
**”Is It Safe?”**
This is the question that matters most to us. At Triton Adventures, safety isn’t a selling point — it’s the foundation everything else is built on. Every dive starts with a comprehensive briefing. Every instructor is SSI-qualified. Our gear is meticulously maintained. We keep group sizes small so that every diver gets personal attention, not a cattle-market experience.
With over 240 five-star reviews and 20 years of operational experience, we’ve earned the trust of thousands of families, solo travellers, and seasoned divers. Our in-house Instructor Trainer ensures that the quality of teaching never drops below the highest standard.
**The Myths We’re Tired of Hearing**
*”There’s nothing to see in the Mediterranean.”* — Tell that to the sea turtle you’ll lock eyes with at Green Bay, or the giant grouper guarding a lifeboat on the Zenobia.
*”Scuba diving is dangerous.”* — With proper training, maintained equipment, and qualified instructors, recreational scuba diving has a lower fatality rate than jogging. We don’t say that to be flippant — we say it because understanding the real risks (and how we manage them) is part of what makes diving safe.
**Ready to Do Cool Things?**
That’s our motto. And we mean it. Whether you’re taking your first breath underwater or logging dive number 500, Cyprus has something that’ll make your jaw drop — which, for the record, you should not do while wearing a regulator.
